The Watkins Community Museum of History collects artifacts and displays exhibits that pertain to the fascinating history of Douglas County. Exhibits include the lesser known history of the Civil War's impact on the mid-west region, and the life and times of Joe Naismith, the inventor of basketball. The museum is located in the historic 1888 Watkins Building, northeast of the University of Kansas, near South Park.
