The Japanese Friendship Garden was built in 1995, honoring the historic relationship Lawrence has with its Japanese sister city of Hiratsuka. Visitors to the garden can view a beautiful display of Japanese flora that includes yoshiro cherry trees, bamboo and juniper all artfully arranged and uniquely lit. A tall carved stone tower and lantern were shipped from Japan especially for the garden, which is located near the University of Kansas, north of South Park.
Open daily, dawn - dusk.
Free.
